Vegas Sands To Build Casino

Las Vegas Sands, the world's top casino operator, has been picked to build and run Singapore's first casino (An Integrated Resort at Marina Bay), a project that will cost more than S$5bil - 26 May 2006. Singapore has selected gaming firm Las Vegas Sands to build and operate the nation's first casino - Singapore aims to attract Asian gamblers and boost tourism revenues. The casino project is set to cost more than USD3 billion and Singapore says it wants the waterfront site to become an emblem for the city-state. Sands had submitted the best overall proposal that meets the economic and tourism objectives of Singapore, Deputy Prime Minister S. Jayakumar told a news conference yesterday, adding that Sands had also committed the highest investment. In the running was Malaysia's Genting International, MGM Mirage and Harrah's Entertainment are the three other bidders who submitted their bids for the Marina Bay project.

Sands runs the Venetian in Las Vegas and a casino in Macau, and was advised by Singapore property firm City Developments. It is due to open in 2009. When completed, it will a one-hectare Sky Park offers a sweeping view of the cityscape. There will also be a 3,000-seat amphitheatre for a nightly Light and Water Show. Another highlight will be the outdoor Event Plaza on the waterfront promenade which will be equipped with hydraulic steps to configure seating arrangements for different kinds of events. The integrated resort will also have an Art Science Museum. The resort will also feature two floating crystal pavilions accessible via submerged tunnels. Visitors will also be spoilt for entertainment choices like the large retail malls, top billing performances and a Grand Arcade with an ice skating rink.

The different components are well-connected and seamlessly integrated with the MRT station, the Garden at Marina South and the waterfront promenade.
