Singapore 11 - Pasir Panjang, Alexandra, Kent Ridge
Pasir Panjang in the south is the Malay name for "long sandy beach". Malay villages used to dot the coastline along Pasir Panjang. The main economic activities were fishing and small scale agriculture. Developments in the area only took place later after the war. In the 1950s, the area began to take on a suburban character as bungalows were built along the coastline, fronting the sea. The sea and facilities such as Haw Par Villa has made Pasir Panjang a popular recreational area for residents and vistors alike.
