Rochor is historically significant to Singapore. Situated in the northern part of the city, it has a colourful history and a wealth of architecturally interesting old buildings. Even before Sir Stamford Raffles' arrival in Singapore, the Rochor area was the focus of a settled population. With the establishment of the town, business developed, turning the area into the island's wholesale trading centre and depot of its transport industry.
