Singapore 60 - Jurong East
In June 1961, Dr. Albert Winsemius from the United Nations Bureau of Technical Assisstance, initiated the industrialisation programme for Singapore. He recommended 6,500 ha of land for the new Jurong Industrial Estate. With the incorporation of Jurong Town Corporation (JTC) in 1968, the planning, development and management of all industrial sites in Singapore came under JTC. The corporation sought to provide green areas such as the Jurong Park, Chinese and Japanese Gardens and Jurong Country Club as green foils to the industrial developments.
