Singapore 04 - Raffles Place
 The National Heritage Board declared Raffles Place a historical site. During the early days of the area which has been a bustling economic centre since the 19th century. Big companies such as the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank, the Straits Trading Company, Laidlaw's Department Stores and Robinsons set down their roots there from about the 1800s. The entire area was called Commercial Square originally, before being renamed in 1858. Although it was bombed during World War II, the place soon thrived again in the '50s, becoming a premier shopping area. Today, it is the address of some of the biggest banks and companies in the Republic.
